Folc takes to the skies with Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic is celebrating of English Wine Week in style this year, with English still rosé brand, folc, being selected as Virgin’s exclusive partner to celebrate English Wine in all its glory this Summer. Having not served still rosé in 7 years, folc, England’s highest ranking still rosé, will be served in Virgin’s Upper Class Cabins on all routes to the Caribbean and the U.S. for a month from 8th June.
Shiada Drydale, Beverage Lead at Virgin Atlantic, has commented, “To commemorate English Wine Week 2022, we are delighted to offer Folc, a multi-award-winning dry English still rosé wine for our Upper Class customers. This will be the first time we have flown an English still rosé, so we are incredibly excited! We are always on the lookout for newcomers to the market and we’re proud to support homegrown talent such as Folc.”
Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class cabins boast ultimate comfort with vast panoramic windows, large TV screens, increased storage space and an illuminated dome ceiling design, including a social space named ‘The Loft’ in which passengers can relax.
Having launched last year, folc impressed wine critics and accrued numerous awards both nationally and on an international scale. Their 2021 vintage is a blend of six different grape varieties: all sourced from family-run vineyards in Kent, East & West Sussex, and Suffolk, comprising Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Bacchus and Kerner. The grapes make a short trip to Canterbury where they meet folc’s extremely talented winemakers at Defined wines, headed up by Nick Lane who is ex head winemaker at Cloudy Bay and Moet Chandon, Veuve Clicquot & Dom Perignon.
The brand is founded by couple Elisha Rai and Tom Cannon who have a passion for wine and in particular the amazing quality of wine that is produced on English soil. Having come up with the idea to champion English rosé four years ago, the couple flung themselves into the wine industry in the midst of a world pandemic in 2020. With Elisha as one of the very few females of colour in UK wine production, folc recognises that the wine industry has some way to go when it comes to diversity. The team looks to demystify wine and truly represent and speak the same language as their customers. The wine is vegan and gluten free, using a limited number of sulphates in the winemaking process without compromising on quality.
The word, folc, is the Old English word for people, tribe and family and this is a wine designed to bring people together, best enjoyed chilled with family and friends.
