Digby Fine English Names Swig Wines as On-Trade Distributor
Sussex-based sparkling wine producer Digby Fine English has named Swig Wines as its new on-trade distributor from 20th April. Founded by Robin Davis in 1997, Swig Wines is an independent distributor based in south west London, working with wines from family-owned wineries and small-scale artisan producers who prioritise ecologically responsible farming and minimal intervention winemaking
“Swig Wines are the rock stars of UK wine distribution, focused on spreading the joy of proper wine to those who will love it,” says Trevor Clough, Digby’s CEO and Head Blender. “It’s going to be a blast working with Robin, Damon and their trailblazing team in helping our unique wines to find new English terroir enthusiasts.”
“Digby was a revelation,” says Swig Founder Robin Davis. “I am so excited by the current bottlings, but there is also so much phenomenal wine in the cellar that we’ll see in the years to come! The decisions of the founders to hold back stock and to choose the best fruit from England rather than being tied to one vineyard are visionary, giving them the flexibility to move to an excellent new grape source if it comes up, while keeping the supply from their favourites. That they chose to work with Dermot Sugrue ever since their first vintage in 2009 shows their seriousness and intent. We’re so happy to continue the good work that has been done bringing Digby to the attention of restaurants, hotels, wine bars and wine shops.”
Digby continues to work with its previous distributor, Armit Wines, for key off-trade national accounts, and with Inverarity Morton (Scotland), Vine Street Imports (US) and Dhall & Nash Fine Wines (New Zealand).
Digby Fine English was founded by Trevor Clough and Jason Humphries, releasing its first wines in 2013. Clough and Humphries source grapes from carefully selected vineyard partners across chalk, greensand and clay sites in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset, all vinified under the guidance of Consulting Winemaker Dermot Sugrue, with a keen focus on long ageing. In 2021 they acquired their first fully owned ‘home’ vineyard site in Hilden, Kent, and guests are welcomed to an elegant Tasting Room in Arundel ,West Sussex.
