National Awards Ceremony to go viral – and everyone is invited!
8 September 2020 at noon – the industry’s national Awards event is being premiered
WineGB’s national Awards ceremony will be open to all to attend, as the event is taken online this year. In place of the annual Awards ceremony which is attended by wine producers, sponsors, trade and press, WineGB’s industry celebration will become a virtual event, to be aired at noon on Tuesday 8 September.
8 September would have been the day of WineGB’s annual trade and press tasting, which has been cancelled due to COVID-19. In its place, the focus will be on the champions in the WineGB Awards, when the Trophy winners will be unveiled in the special online event. Last year, the Trophy winners were one of the most popular features at the trade tasting.
“Given that the pandemic cast doubt about the annual competition even taking place, this year’s Awards ceremony will also celebrate the fact that despite all the challenges the competition went ahead, not least due to the commitment of our fantastic judges, co-chairs Susie Barrie MW and Oz Clarke, and Rebecca Palmer, buyer at Corney & Barrow,” commented Julia Trustram Eve, Marketing Manager at WineGB.
The Awards event will last around 30 minutes and is packed with interviews including judges Susie Barrie MW, Oz Clarke OBE and Rebecca Palmer. There will be additional participation from WineGB’s acting MD, Peter Gladwin, who will also announce an extra Award from the industry – Lifetime Achievement.
A listing of the medal winners (some 245 in total) and Trophy winners will be released to the trade and press on the same day. The listing allows the wines to be sorted by award, style, producer, vintage and varietal. It will be sent to trade buyers and wine press, and downloadable from the WineGB website.
To join the event, just register to attend here. All registrants will receive a full colour digital booklet packed with information about the Awards and full listing of all the medal winners.
