Award-winning winemaker and vineyard manager, Kieron Atkinson, announces the opening of the region’s newest winery, from the location of the historic Darley Abbey Mills, near Derby.

The English Wine Project: Winery will open to the public from Saturday 1st May (2021), where Kieron and his team will be welcoming visitors to the new space for private tours, to click and collect, or to drop by on selected days and try the range of award-winning local wines and quality ciders.

The winery is based in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Derwent Valley Mills at Darley Abbey, near Derby.

Kieron is vineyard tenant at Renishaw Hall Vineyard in north Derbyshire, from where he’s managed the site and produced global-award winning wines since 2011.

Kieron says: “I’m really excited to be making wines and ciders from this new urban winery space. Derby is the perfect, central location to be producing excellent English wines. It’s a positive addition to the region after a year of so much uncertainty.”

With plenty of space and ample parking, it is easy to socially distance and purchase a range of medal-winning locally made products.

It’s also an opportunity to take a peek around the new production space, where visitors will see Renishaw Hall wines – as well as barrel-aged ciders – going through their fascinating development processes.

The winery will be hosting private winery tours and tastings, adhering to C-19 safety guidelines – offering a unique experience for groups including tutored wine and cider tasting.

Visit the site in Darley Abbey Mills on Saturday, 1st May, where the winery will be open from noon until 4pm, and on subsequent Friday afternoons during May to October – for visitors to try, buy and support truly local produce.
