WineGB, the trade association representing the UK’s wine producers, is optimistic about the size and quality of the 2026 harvest. Producers across the UK are currently reporting healthy vineyards, clean fruit and encouraging ripening following stable summer conditions.
With an unusual frost for some, affecting a small percentage of sites and crops, growers have applied strong vineyard management and technical expertise to support recovery and maintain fruit health.
Nicola Bates, WineGB CEO said: “Our producers have shown exceptional skill this season one in which we saw frost, hailstorms and a heatwave within weeks of each other. Their vineyard management is currently delivering healthy, high-quality fruit and whilst it’s too early to definitively say the overall impact on this year’s UK harvest, and what happens over the next few weeks will be crucial, the vineyards look strong and we’re optimistic.
“That said, seasonal conditions remain variable and producers continue to adapt, so building long-term resilience plans is essential for protecting our vineyards and to future proof English and Welsh wine.”
WineGB is encouraging the trade to continue championing English and Welsh wines across retail, wholesale and hospitality, and to see everyone visit a local vineyard and enjoy the quality wine and experiences that are available.
The trade body holds its 2026 WineGB Trade & Media Tasting, on 7th September at Old Billingsgate, London, It is urging hospitality operators, retail outlets and tourism operators to seize the commercial opportunity presented by the fast‑growing English and Welsh wine category. The tasting will bring together producers from every major region, giving buyers, sommeliers, retailers, importers and more the chance to discover new wines, refresh their lists, and build direct relationships with the estates shaping the UK’s quality cool climate wine scene.
