Roadshow of vineyards in market and new to export to fly the flag for English wines in Denmark and Sweden

English wines will be out in force next week with the largest number of wines and producers hosting trade tastings in Copenhagen and Stockholm.

This series of tastings follows their successful showcase event in Oslo last year and ongoing positive growth in the market, making it the most successful export market for the industry.

More than double the number of producers from across England* will be taking part in the tastings, including new producers just launching into export and a number of established top brands in English wine. This will be one of the largest tastings of UK wines to be seen outside of the UK.

Sparkling and still wines will be on show, including traditional method sparkling wines of all styles from the classic varieties, to the fresh, aromatic still whites, notable still reds and charmat-style sparkling. Several of the winemakers will be present, alongside representatives and in some cases importers.

English wines have proven to be a successful category in Norway. Trade outlets and commentators alike have identified how well they suit the palates and pique the interest of consumers. There is also the added attraction that vineyards in the UK are easily accessible for wine lovers from Scandinavia to discover the many vineyards now open to visitors. Wine tourism in the UK has been growing exponentially and is now a recognised category by the UK’s tourism board, VisitBritain.

The tastings will be taking place at the British Embassies in Copenhagen on Tuesday 20th February and Stockholm on Thursday 22nd February. Entrance is by invitation only and only open to bona fide wine trade and press. For more information on the tastings and to request an invitation, please contact WineGB Export and Events Manager, Angelina Howe.

Nicola Bates, CEO of WineGB, said: “We play an important role in connecting our producers with markets and our export programme is integral to extending our reach. We are grateful for all of the support by the British Embassy network, and their wonderful backdrops which are appropriate to showcase these high-quality brands – many going to export here for the first time. We look forward to saying skål! to the Denmark and Swedish drinks trade.”
