The English Wine Diaries podcast, a show that champions English wine and those who make and promote it, has been shortlisted for an international award less than a year since it launched.

The podcast, launched by journalist Rebecca Pitcairn in April 2021, has been shortlisted in the Best Food & Drink Podcast category of The Publisher Podcast Awards, against competition including The Olive Magazine Podcast and Scran, The Scotsman’s foodie podcast. Rebecca, who lives in West Sussex, is founder of online English wine and lifestyle magazine, The Southern Quarter, which exists to promote wine made in the South East of England – the heartland of English winemaking.

Each week, The English Wine Diaries features interviews with sommeliers, vineyard owners, hoteliers and some rather familiar faces too, who talk about how a love of wine – particularly that made on British soil – has helped shape their lives and careers.

“I launched The English Wine Diaries podcast to document the stories of some of the amazing people I’ve met since founding The Southern Quarter English wine magazine,” Rebecca comments. “UK consumers are starting to appreciate the wine produced on our doorstep more than ever before but I think we are still only beginning to scratch the surface. By delving into the stories of those who work so hard behind the scenes of this burgeoning industry, I hope to open up the world of English wine to many more people.”

As well as vineyard owners and winemakers, Rebecca has also welcomed guests including Hotel du Vin and Pig Hotel group founder Robin Hutson, wine experts Oz Clarke and Olly Smith and cricketer Phil Tufnell, who recently launched his own wine collection with Virgin Wines.

New episodes of The English Wine Diaries are available each week on most podcast directories, including iTunes, Spotify and Google. Subscribe to be the first to listen or follow @thesouthernquarter on Instagram for news of upcoming guests and more English wine-related interviews and articles.

The results of The Publisher Podcast Awards will be announced at a ceremony at Proud Cabaret in London on April 27th, 2022.
