A free workshop on how vineyards can make a sustainable and positive contribution to the conservation of invertebrates.

Buglife are the Invertebrate Conservation Trust, a national charity whose aim is to achieve sustainable populations of all invertebrates. We are part of the Changing Chalk partnership working on the eastern South Downs, and as part of this partnership are engaging with vineyard owners, managers and workers to demonstrate how vineyards can make a sustainable and positive contribution to the conservation of invertebrates.

The half day workshop covers:

• An introduction to invertebrates including pollinating insects and crop pest predators to include a little about their ecology – classroom based

• Habitat requirements of pollinators and crop pest predators and how to provide or enhance habitats and resources in the vineyard – classroom based

• Introduction to invertebrates in the vineyard through seeing what we can find on site – vineyard based

• How to carry out a simple pollinator habitat assessment in the vineyard and how the vineyard could be enhanced for invertebrates – vineyard based.
