winegb’s History
The modern UK wine sector is older than you may think, learn about who have built our association.
While English and Welsh wine is relatively new in the minds of modern consumers, our history is longer. This is the story of our association, and how it has helped the industry. We rightly want to acknowledge many members who have secured so much for the collective interests of the wine sector.
WineGB became the UK’s domestic wine producer association in 2016. The result of a merger between the UK Vineyards Association (founded in 1967 as English Vineyards Association) and English Wine Producers founded in 1997.
the most collaborative of sectors
The association we are today owes a huge amount to the dedication and work of all involved and the vast majority are volunteers.
It shows the huge value of collaboration that typifies the UK wine scene. It is impossible to name everyone, but your work has and continues to be appreciated.

WineGB CEOs

Extraordinary contributions
We would like to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution of two key team members. Without their tireless work over decades it is likely that WineGB would not exist.
Julia Trustram Eve
Head of Marketing
Julia remains one of the best-known and loved members of the English and Welsh wine making community. Under her creativity and passion, she set up our key marketing activities including our export showcases at ProWein, our National Trade Tasting and her greatest campaign English Wine Week.

Mags Gilbert
Finance Director and Company Secretary
Mags’ firm hand has ensured that every penny of members’ money is used for the good of the association. There needs to be a person to say no to enthusiastic colleagues who want to spend, and Mags has done this with grace and persistence for years. Her pivot during the COVID-19 pandemic kept WineGB afloat and her diligent, accurate work has meant that the Board, and therefore the membership, has been properly supported.
