WineGB’s Coronation Pledges
Bolney Wine Estate
West Sussex
Guided by nature

Established in 1972, by Janet and Rodney Pratt, Bolney Wine Estate in West Sussex was one of the first, and remains one of the most beautiful, English wine estates. Janet and Rodney were pioneers. Guided by nature – the mild climate and the sandstone soil – they discovered the best varieties of grapes to grow in their eco-system. Today, their daughter, Sam Linter, is Chairperson of the Estate having inherited her parents’ love and passion for winemaking.
The principle of sustainable management is crucial to our continued existence and growth as a company. Our ‘Guided By Nature’ ethos sets the tone for many of our behaviours. In celebration of the coronation of King Charles III this year, we would like to pledge the following objectives focused on the conservation of our Estate which have stemmed from the ideas proposed in the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB) vineyard audit for 2022.
Bolney’s Pledge
Our first objective is to engage an environmental consultant by contacting the Sussex Wildlife Trust for a consultation of improvement.
Our second objective is to develop a range of native plants on site to increase biodiversity and create new habitats. To achieve this objective, we intend to plant wildflower meadow seed on banks and headlands as well as plant native species hedging around site. Our third and final objective is to create new habitats to increase biodiversity. Our plan to implement this includes building bug hotels, log and stone piles as well as installing bird and bat boxes.
